The Guardian

The Guardian is grounded in the wisdom and reverence of his ancestors. He shows us how to honor where we have come from and how to allow Mother Earth to teach us how to move in harmony with her natural rhythms and cycles. The more we learn to align ourselves with nature, the more successful we will become as a species.

This is something that the Guardian has in common with the Nomad (42) who understands life as a continuity of cycles, and celebrates the seasons and the spirals of life and death. They both see the interconnectedness of all things and they know that there is no point in artificially keeping something alive that has already passed its expiry date. Life is breathing-in and breathing-out.

The Guardian has an instinct for the true value of things, and can detect the slightest shift in the environment, even sensing subtle shifts in global circumstances. He knows when something threatens to bring instability or change. He assesses the past, weeds out weaknesses and builds upon the strengths.

His intuition informs him when a dream is worth bringing into form and reality. He recognizes which outlets are worthy of his energy, and has an instinct for those relationships and projects worth keeping alive for the benefit of the whole, for generations to come.

The Guardian also has a close relationship with the Daredevil (28). These two archetypes are the Portal Guardians to the Codon Ring of Illusion. This codon ring is about learning not to postpone life due to seeking a sense of purpose in the future. The Guardian and the Daredevil inspire others to give themselves totally to every present moment. The Daredevil is a true risk-taker who isn’t afraid of the deep and unknown waters. The Guardian is similar in the sense that he has overcome the fear of failure and very few things can stop him from living fully.

One of the Guardian’s qualities is conservatism: an inherent knowing that restraint ensures continuity and long term success for the individual, community and this planet. At the same time, this archetype discerns and challenges outdated and self-serving agendas much like the Maestro (50), who sets the rules for his community and isn’t afraid to update them to ensure the wellbeing of his people and future generations.

The Guardian is more of an evaluator than a doer. He never rushes. He knows what can or cannot be transformed successfully and acts as the brake on the drive of the Achiever (54). Together, these two archetypes build successful organizations and transform communities that are struggling. One of the main factors for their success is that they both attract and discern the ideal allies for every project.

The Guardian loves commitment and long-term goals. When he commits, he gives his all and endures whatever is needed to advance. His endurance is single-minded, but not inflexible: he is capable of adapting to changing circumstances.

The Guardian maintains success through a steadfast set of principles coupled with a constant ability to update, revolutionize, and expand the original investment. He is one of the first to know about new ways of trading, investing, and funding; but this doesn’t mean that he will jump on every new hype. He is a tempering force: thoughtful, and capable of finding the way towards any goal while minimizing risk to ensure continuity. Longevity, Consistency, Sustainability are keywords for this archetype.
