What does “in transit” mean?
When I say an archetype is “in transit,” here’s what I actually mean
And why this matters for you

☀️ ☀️ ☀️
Most people first meet Human Design, the Gene Keys, or astrology through their personal chart.
- “What’s my type?”
- “What Gene Keys do I have?”
- “What’s in my Sun, Moon, and Rising?”
That’s your natal imprint: the snapshot of the sky at the moment you were born. It never changes.
But there’s also another layer that’s always moving:
The living sky right now. The planets moving through the natal wheel, what we call transits.
And when I say we’re “in transit with a certain archetype,” I’m talking about how the Sun is currently lighting up that archetype in the collective field.
This post will walk you through:
- What a solar transit is (in simple language)
- What it means when a certain archetype is in transit
- Why you should care even if you’re totally new to all of this
- How the Walking the Wheel method helps you work with this energy instead of just being pushed around by it
I also wrote a book about this method and summarized all 64 archetypes if you’re interested. 📖
1. What is a solar transit?

Think of the sky as a giant wheel of 64 archetypes (gates / Gene Keys).
Over the course of a year, the Sun moves around this wheel, one archetype at a time.
- In astrology, we talk about the Sun moving through signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, etc.).
- In Human Design / Gene Keys, we can zoom in more precisely and see which gate / Gene Key / archetype the Sun is highlighting (and what line – there are 6 lines per gate).
When the Sun is “in” an archetype, we say:
“The ___ archetype is in transit.”
You can imagine the Sun as a spotlight slowly circling a stage.
Each week, that spotlight lands on a new character (archetype) positioned around this circular stage, and for those days, that archetype steps forward and says:
“Okay humanity, I have the mic. I’ll be your teacher this week.”
This is not just about you personally, it’s about the collective weather we’re all moving through.
2. “In transit” vs. “in your design”

This part is really important and clears up a lot of confusion.
Your design (natal chart)
These are the archetypes you were born with.
They describe your core patterns, natural strengths, and life themes.
They’re like your inner cast of characters that stay with you for life.
The transit (current sky)
These are the archetypes the Sun (and other planets) are highlighting right now.
They’re like the current weather or cosmic curriculum
- Your design = Who you are
- The transit = What the day (or week) feels like
When an archetype is in transit, it temporarily joins the collective stage:
- It colors the mood.
- It shapes the themes we’re all bumping into.
- It activates that archetype in everyone (whether you have it defined in your chart or not).
3. What does it feel like when an archetype is in transit?

Let’s use an example.
Say the Mountaineer (9) is in transit. The archetype of focus, detail, and steady progress.
Collectively, you might notice:
- Feeling extra aware of what’s unfinished or scattered
- A strong urge to organize, refine, or “finally deal with” something
- Frustration when you’re interrupted or pulled in too many directions
- Relief or satisfaction when you pick one path and actually stick with it
Now imagine a different week when the Black Panther (34) is in transit. This is raw, instinctive life force and power.
That might bring:
- Big surges of energy (or burnout if you push too hard)
- Clear “yes / no” signals in your body
- Situations where you’re asked: “Will you use your power for truth… or to please others?”
Each archetype has its own lesson, invitation, and shadow.
When it’s in transit, those themes are:
- Easier to notice
- Louder in our experiences
- More available for healing, growth, and embodiment
You don’t have to believe in anything “woo” to see this.
It’s simply a way of naming patterns that many of us already feel.
4. Why should you pay attention to transits?

Most people live inside their patterns without realizing what’s shaping them.
They say things like:
- “I don’t know why, but this week I’m so restless.”
- “Suddenly everyone around me is emotional / defensive / intense.”
- “I keep running into the same kind of conversation over and over.”
When you understand the transit, all of this starts to make sense.
Here’s what tracking transits can give you:
1. Language for what you’re already feeling
Instead of:
“I’m just a mess.”
You can say:
“Oh, the archetype of (for example) focus, power, or truth-telling is in transit.
No wonder this theme is up right now. How can this help me in my life right now?”
Naming it removes shame and brings curiosity instead of self-judgment.
2. Relief: “It’s not just me”
You realize:
- Other people are feeling this too.
- The tension isn’t only “your fault.”
- You’re moving through a collective wave, not failing at life.
This helps you soften, breathe, and respond more kindly to yourself and others.
3. A chance to practice new patterns
Every archetype has:
- A shadow pattern (how it feels when we’re in fear or distortion)
- A gift (what’s possible when we lean into truth, courage, and awareness)
When that archetype is in transit, life gives you extra practice reps:
- The same kind of situation repeats.
- The same kind of trigger resurfaces.
- The same kind of invitation appears.
You can either react the same way you always have…
or experiment with a new response.
4. Deepening your relationship with your own chart
When an archetype that you already have in your design comes into transit, it’s like that part of you is:
- Turned up on the volume dial
- Brought into the spotlight
- Offered a chance to mature, heal, and express more fully
When an archetype you don’t have defined is in transit, you get to:
- Try it on
- Learn from it
- See how it shows up in others
- And understand it more deeply in the people you love
It might even be a “connector” archetype where it bridges a gate you have to bring energy from one center to another in your bodygraph. We call this a harmonic gate. You will feel more movement, things working out and flowing in your life when this happens.
Either way, your self-knowledge grows.
5. So what is “Walking the Wheel”?

Walking the Wheel is simply a structured, gentle way of doing exactly this:
Following the Sun as it moves through the 64 archetypes (gates/gene keys) and consciously walking with each one as it comes into transit.
Instead of:
- Randomly reacting to your week
- Feeling tossed around by emotions, thoughts, and circumstances
You:
- Name the archetype in transit
- Learn its core themes (shadow, gift, and higher potential)
- Notice how it’s showing up in your body, relationships, and daily life
- Engage with it through reflection, journaling, questions, or simple awareness
It’s like having a yearlong conversation with Life itself, one archetype at a time. How practical, helpful and magical right?!
6. Why this method is powerful (especially if you’re new)

If you’re new to Human Design, Gene Keys, or the 64 Archetypes, it can feel:
- Overwhelming
- Abstract
- Too “heady” or complicated
Walking the Wheel makes it practical and experiential:
You don’t have to learn all 64 at once.
You only meet one archetype at a time, as it comes into transit.
It’s like being introduced to a new character each week, instead of being thrown into a room with 64 strangers.
You learn by living it, not memorizing it.
Instead of reading a bunch of theory, you ask:
- “How is this showing up in me this week?”
- “Where do I see this archetype in the people around me?”
- “What is this energy trying to teach me right now?”
Life becomes your classroom.
It creates rhythm and grounding.
The transits give a natural structure:
- One archetype after another
- A continual unfolding
- A sense of being carried by a larger pattern
This rhythm can be especially supportive if you’re sensitive, intuitive, or easily overwhelmed.
7. How to start noticing the transits (in a simple way)

You don’t have to know all the technical details to begin.
Here’s a simple way to play:
– Find out which archetype is in transit.
(In our community / free weekly community calls / posts, I’ll share which one the Sun is highlighting.)
– Read a short description of that archetype.
Just enough to know:
- What is its shadow?
- What is its gift?
- What is it here to teach?
– Watch your week through that lens.
- What happens in conversations?
- What’s coming up in your emotions?
- What patterns are you noticing at work, at home, in your thoughts?
– Ask a simple question like:
- “What is this archetype trying to show me?”
- “How am I meeting this energy — from fear, or from curiosity?”
– Take one small aligned action.
Let the archetype inspire:
- A boundary
- A conversation
- A piece of art or writing
- A tiny shift in how you respond
That’s it. That’s how you Walk the Wheel. One week, one archetype, one choice at a time.
(and you are welcome to join us on our weekly Walking the Wheel community calls)
8. Why this matters now

We’re living in a time where:
- Old systems are crumbling
- Many people feel untethered, anxious, or “off path”
- Sensitives and creators are being called into greater alignment and leadership
Watching the transits and Walking the Wheel isn’t about predicting the future or controlling life.
It’s about:
- Being in relationship with life
- Recognizing the patterns that move through you
- Choosing how you want to meet them
When you do that consistently, something beautiful happens:
You stop feeling like a victim of your experiences
and start feeling like a conscious participant in your own evolution.
That’s the heart of this work.
If you’re in my world, you’ll see me talking about which archetype is in transit, sharing reflections, questions, and practices.
Take what resonates.
Notice what shows up in your life.
And just know…

So well explained, thank you!
